The thing with replacing all wear parts in a system at once (a front end rebuild for-instance), is sometimes you find yourself replacing a part or two that clearly have a lot of life left in them.
This ball joint from the ‘64 pickup is not one of those parts. The socket is cracked in multiple places and about 1/4 of the lip is gone. Good ball joints are so stiff that it is hard to move them, this one is so loose it rattles when you shake it.
Finding this before it failed makes this whole front end rebuild worthwhile.

This used to bother me with my R/C cars, then I got over it. Just toss the working ones in your parts box and call it a day. Toss them if you never need them.
